Big Decision Update

I received my Christmas gift a few weeks early – an alternative answer to my defibrillation dilemma. After some tricky maneuvering, a package arrived at my door containing my rather unusual gift – an automated external defibrillator or AED. Have your ever seen one of those television medical dramas in which a patient’s heart stops and some doctor holds two paddles up to the patient’s chest, shouts “Clear!”, and sends a sharp electrical charge to restart the heart? Well, an AED is a small portable version of that machine with two adhesive leads that function as paddles and which operates on a special battery. The AED also provides voice prompts that talk you through the steps of use as you use it. This is a non-invasive, lightweight, handy little device that could save my life in an emergency.

A few weeks ago, I went to see the new James Bond flick, Casino Royale. In the film, Bond just so happens to keep a small AED in the glove compartment of his Aston Martin sports car in case of emergency. After all, every spy should have one. And if it’s good enough for the great James Bond, it is certainly good enough for me.

Scott,
As an addition to this colorful and speaking, external defibrillator I suggest you will now receive a fully functioning Aston Martin sports car on Xmas day that can be towed behind your van when you want to really have some fun! Just do not let your father drive after his wine; your mother is much safer and I believe she would love to share this experience with you....

More importantly, thank you for continually educating me and others as to how you use each day and night to continue living a full life in spite of MD and doing this all with a "rye" sense of humor!

You always surprise me with your courage, your writing skills and the support you give to others and, the grace and strength that you expend to keep living and living and living your interesting and, yet flawed health condition.

Again, I am grateful to know you through your parents, your brother, Nicky and, now, through your personal blog.

Thank you for your insight and communication that I now look foreword to reading and following...

Sincerely,
Marjorie Dilsheimer

Excellent piece of equipment this AED! I'm sure it has added much comfort to your state of mind. But tell me, can the AED be attached to your colon in an effort to restart it? Only then will I truly be impressed by this marvel of modern technology. Indeed.

Because of a defibrillator, George is still with me today. He had a myocardial infarction in 1978. The doctors used a defibrillator to get his heart rythem back and therefore functioning...What a wonderful machine...Good to hear you have one and hope to hear you never had to use it...Just knowing that you have one should comfort you...GREAT CHRISTMAS GIFT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
